Installing Companion

Download Companion from the Curvo web app, install it, sign in and work through a short setup. It runs on Macs with Apple Silicon and on 64-bit Windows. Intel Macs aren't supported.
Once installed, the app is called Curvo. That's the name to look for in your Applications folder, menu bar, system tray and system settings.
What you need
Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
Processor | Apple Silicon | x64 |
Operating system | macOS 13 or later | 64-bit Windows 10 or later |
Memory | 8 GB | 8 GB |
Also needed | Nothing else | Microsoft Visual C++ runtime |
There's no download for Intel Macs. You can still record with the notetaker from the web app. See How Curvo works.
On a computer below the minimum, the app warns that it "may still open, but recording and live meeting features may not work reliably."
Download and install
In the Curvo web app, select Companion in the left sidebar, or open the Companion page.
Under Your platform, choose macOS (Apple Silicon) or Windows.
Select Download Curvo Companion.
On a Mac, open the downloaded
.dmgfile and drag Curvo to your Applications folder, then open it. On Windows, run the downloaded installer.
Install the Visual C++ runtime on Windows
Companion can't record from your computer without the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. If it's missing, the app shows a notice titled Botless temporarily disabled, where botless means recording from your computer. The Curvo notetaker still works in the meantime.
Click Download installer on the notice, or View Microsoft instructions to follow Microsoft's steps instead.
Follow the steps in the installer.
Back in the app, click Restart Curvo.
Companion has no password. It signs you in through your browser or an emailed link.
Open the app. It starts on the sign-up screen, so if you already have a Curvo account, click Sign in beside "Already have an account?".
Click Continue with Google, Continue with Microsoft or Continue with Curvo. Or enter your email and click Sign in with email, then open the link Curvo sends you.
Use the same address you use for the Curvo web app.
If this doesn't work, see Troubleshooting Companion. For web app accounts and invites, see Signing in to Curvo.
Work through the setup
After you sign in, Companion takes you through these steps:
Fill in My profile.
Choose My call languages.
Choose Your sales methodology.
Under Connect your calendar, choose Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar, or click I'll do this later. Companion spots calls without a calendar, but your meeting lists need one. See Meetings in Companion.
On a Mac, grant the permissions below.
Grant permissions on a Mac
The setup asks for three permissions and says "All permissions are required". Click each button in the setup, then allow access when macOS asks. If you need to do it by hand, open System Settings > Privacy & Security and turn on Curvo in each pane.
Button | What Curvo uses it for |
|---|---|
Enable microphone | Live transcription during your meetings |
Enable accessibility | Detecting and joining your meetings |
Enable screen recording | Capturing meeting content for review and analysis |
After you turn on Screen Recording, macOS may need Curvo to restart first. Click Quit and reopen if the app offers it.
If you later turn on Audio only recording under Settings > Meeting, Curvo no longer needs Screen Recording for your recordings. macOS asks for system audio access instead.
On Windows, Curvo has nothing for you to enable here, and its Permissions page shows each one as Granted.
Updates
Curvo updates itself and holds updates until any call has finished. To check by hand, go to Settings > Updates. See Companion settings.
